Thanks Scott. I hope people like you can help educate others about the young nation of Eritrea while also having a respectable view of all immigrant Americans. America has been taking a beating because of the few and It does not deserve it. It is a great nation that must seek to change the way others view it. I see a lot of similar traits between the U.S and Eritrea despite the many policy making differences.

Good article. Its sad that we have all this controversy. He is a good runner, with an African name who is an American citizen. I hope that he is not bothered by this. Too bad more people are unaware of the Eritreans struggle for independence. I had a friend in High school who was from Asmara, he told me that it took him several years to leave the country (Ethiopia) and that he came to the US as a refugee with very little. He was in High school even though he was almost 30. I don't know, but hope that he too is an American citizen. God bless.

The issues have been addressed during the San Diego sports tournament. Mr. Johnny come lately. Where were you in July. You people with no names sometime make me wonder.

Case is closed and we have moved on.

FYI; This was not a complaint by the way as you "with no name" would like to imagine it but an issue that needed to be addressed and not only behind screens but face to face and it is now "Final & Binding" if you know what that means.

Interesting complaint? why though complain after you receive a dismissal letter instead of airing it out before you were dismissed. Complaining after dismissal makes you look like an angry disgrunted board member with lots of grudge.

The trophy presentation was very disorganized and thats something the Federation need to address. Its time to for the Federation to help the European teams, eithier pay for one or two rooms or pay for their rental car.
Unlike last year, i didnt feel the presence of the local organizers/volunteers. In Dallas, there were volunteers/organizers thru out the staduim working or ready to help.

Mike can you respond to some of the comments posted here. Reading from the comments you are loosing the public opinion battle. You are a PR guy so I know you will try to rebut all points raised by GG Board member. Please try to address the issue, also it will be helpful if you can scan and post the Letter you got from the federation informing you of your dismisal, I am hoping the letter contains reasons of your dismisal.

I'm not a fan of how the federation is run and you do bring some valid points. Having said that, I couldn’t help but observe that your issues were more of personal nature with the president not the board per se.

I would like the pick on a couple of your points. First, you spoke of your strong belief that divisive issues should be avoided. Are you implying the board is hell bent on regionalism or religious basis? Please enlighten us…I have had the privilege to participate in the tournament since 1989 and I have never seen decisions made based on the parameters that you have mentioned. Second, your point regarding women is well taken. However, has there been an instance that a woman run for a post and did not get elected? I don’t think there was…so why even bring that as an issue when there was none.

I'm inclined to believe that your termination may be the result of different political agendas between you and the president. This may have to do with the participation of the embassy. You mentioned that the Eritrean embassy must be invited every year. Why is the participation of the embassy in the federation affairs of such an importance? Doesn’t the honorable ambassador have a bigger fish to fry rather than dealing with the minutia of the federation. Let me point it out to you that the tournament saw its best years when there was no government involvement…I, for one, would NOT like to see this federation (tournament), where I have I had the privilege to participate and cultivate life time friendships, get hijacked by government agents and be destroyed for good. Government involvement in any aspect of private venture is a recipe for disaster whether it is in Eritrea or the U.S.A for that matter. This tournament will always be ERITREAN whether the embassy is invited or not…To insinuate as something else is simple lunacy! After all, sports and politics don’t mix.

One thing I will agree with you: the federation's president is not open at all!

Hasen asked me to volunteer to build a professional information system (database driven website) for the federation and I agreed. I don't know why but the president never liked the idea!!

I still can not understand his unwelcoming attitude. My impression is that he seems to have some egoistical/control issues.

I can understand that it gets real hectic and it is not an easy task to run the federation. So, you guys need to welcome any help should it be available.

Don't forget that you all are volunteers and the federation is not your small-business!!!

Congratulations to all the fans of Henok! Eritrea's football giant has added a new goal to his impressive record.

It's high time Eritrean football federation advertise his name in Eritrea and maybe invite him back home so that Eritrean kids will emulate him. This is one good role model that should not be wasted at all.
